The Thomasville Chapter DAR Christmas Tea is held in December as a fundraiser for the
Lois Elam Scholarship Fund along with other local, state and national projects.
Lois Elam Scholarship
The Thomasville Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Lois Elam Scholarship was created to assist local graduating high school seniors. The goal of the scholarship is to help young people continue their education in areas that encourage DAR goals of historic preservation, education and patriotism. The Lois Elam Scholarship is primarily funded by the DAR Christmas Tea in December as well as donations and the scholarship recipient receives $1,000 towards their college costs.
The scholarship allows a local Thomas County or Grady County graduate entering college for their first year to study history, political science, education, journalism, library science or related fields. Male and female applicants are eligible and are not required to have a DAR connection. The student selected as the Thomasville Chapter DAR Scholarship winner must have been accepted at a college or university and exhibit qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Scholarship applications can be obtained through high school guidance counselors or by contacting the Thomasville Chapter DAR.
